Thank you so much for checking in with us once again as we continue on this adventure from God in Guatemala. We are so thankful for all of our financial supporters and prayer warriors. As you may remember from last month, we need to make up about $400 in monthly support in order to stay in Guatemala. Praise report! We wanted to share with you that we had a few supporters increase their monthly support 5% (to make up the extra Covid related costs at SI) and we had an anonymous one-time gift of about $300 this past month that kept us sustained through February. Praise the Lord! Although we still need to make up that amount in monthly support, he provided our need for last month. The past month has been quite the adventure indeed. We started off by having our first team visit us from the states. It was an adult team of three from Texas and we got the privilege of hosting one of the team members, Lonna, in our home. It was such a treat as we got to host someone from the states in a similar way as we were hosted by a Guatemalan host family during our short term trips here a few years ago. One of our passions is to show North Americans life in another culture, and what God is doing in Guatemala. We can’t wait to have more teams come and see God touch our hearts and theirs as that is half of our ministry here: seeing students know Christ and discover their true calling.
We’ve been spending a lot of time getting ready to start “Club de Chicos/Club de Chicas” and “Club 56”. The first clubs are for our basicos students, which are about middle school and early high school equivalent in the US. During these clubs we spend time dicipling, having fun, and just being a Christ-like support in the children in the surrounding communities. Our theme for 2021 in Club de Chicos/as is Decisions. Throughout the rest of the year we will be talking through issues that teens and all of us face, primarily with our decision to follow Christ. From there, we’ll tackle issues like dating, making the right choice when tempted, the choice to keep going through adversity like the apostle Paul, and others.
This past Friday was our first club, “Club Juntos” meaning Club Together, where the boys and the girls all came together for one club. We used this as a time to play some games, for us to introduce ourselves, and Brianna even made French toast casserole for about 80 people. During this time our co-leader Steven preached a message about having hope in Christ, making the decision to follow him, even when times are tough, using the story of when God brought life to dry bones in Ezekiel 37 as an example of how with God, nothing is impossible.
Club 56 is for our 5th and 6th graders, and our theme this year will be “Running the Race,” a look at the life of Paul. Brianna and I are in charge of this club and we are currently in the planning stages. Club 56 will start at the end of March and over the course of the year we will be using popular movies to parallel with Bible stories involving Paul and overcoming obstacles with Jesus at our side.
This month we had the incredible opportunity to join forces with the Special Education site to host a lunch event. It was such a blast to sing, dance, and eat pizza with the students. The site leaders, Gaby and Brenda, exude joy and compassion towards people with special needs. Being together with the staff, special needs students, and even some other kiddos from a neighboring community was like a little taste of Heaven. We felt honored to be a part of such an inspiring event.
Thank you again for your support and prayers. We look forward to seeing what God has in store next. Please be praying that our car that has been in the shop since December 2nd will get done soon (long story). Please pray that we would receive the remaining $400 of monthly support to continue here. We are praying for you too. Let us know how we can be praying for you!
